anonymous text only communites helped me figure out a lot of stuff about my hobbies including tech as a kid and then teen, it used to be that you just went there, used a nickname (and NEVER shared your personal info online) and talked about what you love now everything has changed so much, the internet is not a place you go to, it is as much part of your life as your real in person interactions to the point where sometimes you feel like you have to escape from it
